mini jet plane (First trailar object)

This is the mini jet plane used in the James Bond film - Octopussy. After searching the Internet to no avail, a class mate was kind enough to shear with the blueprints to the slightly newer version of the jet. Although this was not the same on used in the film, the only difference between the look of this new on the the film version is the fold up wings are not presents in this design. Therefore I decided to use these designs for the object that will be used in my trailer.
Using the same techniques I was tort in the tank tutorial, I placed the diagrams to two bisecting planes to be used as a template for the object. I decided that creating the object on one side of the diagram and then using the similarity tool to mirror it onto the other side was the easies way to create this symmetrical object. The canopy for the plane was actually created with a cube tool. Then using the vector select and move tools, I bent the points of the box into the correct shape. in order to get the angles right I needed to create more vector points so I used a combination of the edge select, ring select and connect tools in order to create the amount of vectors i needed. Then to give the box the streamline curves of a jet plane, I applied a turbo smooth effect to the box. Then all that was left was to apply a similarity affect to the box, adjust the mirror to get the affect in the correct place and the main canopy for the plane was completed.
Next was the wings. Again i used a rectangle to create the basic shape and then manipulate the vectors into shape. This time however I was unable to use the turbo smooth tool as it made the wings to circular, so I turned once again to the combination of the edge select, ring select and connect tools in order to create a third edge, then in increased the scale of the edge slightly, and it give the impression of a curved wing.
Once again I used the similarity tool and adjusted the position of the mirror in order to reflect the wing onto the other side of the object.
I used the exact same process in order to create the back tail fins.
Next came the engines, i created the basic shape using two cylinders on top of each other to create the twin back jets. Then I added to donuts onto the end to create the jet nasals.
The thruster was simply a tube added on top with one end tapered into the jet itself to give the impression that it is coming out of the canopy.
Then I used the same techniques that I used for the wings and the back fins to create the top rear fin out of a rectangle.
The wheels where a bit more tricky. The basic  tier is made out of a thin cylinder with a donut around it. then using the vector select and move tools i created a thinner tier by extruding the outer vectors of the donut, this actually took a lot longer then I anticipated to get the look right.
The front wheal housing was created by using three rectangles and one box in order to give the impression that the wheal can be tuned. The rectangles had to be curved in the same way as the wings. Giving them a more stream line look. The wheal was then attached to the aircraft by a cylinder strut.

The  rear wheals are exactly the same however as they don't need to turn, they where created with out the extra bent arm. Once again a similarity tool was applied to the wheal and was maneuvered into place on the other side of the plane.

In order to create the cockpit, I had to use the cut tool combined with vector select. Using the diagram as i guide I was able to cut out and group a section of the canopy to use as the rear cockpit window.
I was able to use the same technique again in order to select and group together a section of the canopy for the front cockpit window as well.
This is the jet after the cut out cockpit has had a glass affect added to it and the see-though object property turned off. , allowing you to see right though the windows.
After the patten was also cut out of the canopy for the colour patten of the plane, the colours for the plane where added to separate material panels. The colours used for the plane are red, white and blue.
This is the jet after the colour  has been added. (still in the design view)
This is the finished jet after rendering. It looks the part but the refection of the windows is a little to much.

Cameras

In this blog entry I am going to exsplore the effects of cameras. using the setup you see above i am going to record my deiscoverys, so it is easyer to tell each modification aparti am going to leave the camera is the same position for each test.

1st view
This is thecurrent camera perspective. The camera is using a 15mm lens with a FOV of 100 degress. As you cn see, although it does clearly show all the tiles in front of it, there is a lot of empty space under the tiles that is simbly using up memory, this lens apears to be designed for wide shots trather then long shots.

2nd view
This view is using the 35mm lens with a FOV of 54. The camera has also been retated 90 degrees. As you can see, this view is a lot less boxed shaped and is more focused on widescreen, It also gives the impression that the camera is a lot closer to the objects then it actualy is and focuses better on the objects further away then the 15mm lens.

3rd view

This is the third and final view I am going to exsplore today. the camera has once again been rotated to a position of 180 degrees from its origanal upright facing and it is using the 85mm lens with a FOV of 24. As you can see, the camera is zoomed in quite far and the view port as returned to a much more box shaped view

Moodboard for Octopussy

This is my mood board created from images and screen shots from the movie Octopussy and the bonus disk. This mood board helped me choose which objects to create, these object are the fabricated egg, the crocodile suit and ether the cannon with the nuclear boom in it or the mini plane. The reason that i found it difficult to decide between the plane and the cannon is because even though the plane and the scenes with it in are more action packed, the cannon plays a much bigger role in the story. However I have decided that the plane would be a more fitting concept for the trailer as 30 seconds in not much time and so i needed something to grip the audiences attention quickly.
This moodboard shows the Objects of the film I have narrowed it down to. First the mini plane used in the begining of the moves. Second the missile and fire platform also usd in the first part of the movie to shoot down the plane. Then the golden egg from the movie is also a contender as it plays an important role thought thse first half of the film. Fourthy is the yo-yo saw blade. This would be good to make but I am finding it diffacult to get all the clear images of it that I need. Lastly is the crockadile boat that James Bond used to enter Octopussy's Island. However once again I am finding it very diffacule to get the images I need to help me create it and will proberbly have to religh on real images of crockadiles inorder to give it a shot.

This moodboard shows my final desisions on the objects I am going to use to make the trailar. They are going to be the mini plane along with the missile and fire platform. I decided to use these objects becasue I can animate the magoriatly of the scene where james bond manovers to try and avoid the missile. I also decided the the third object I will be making is the golden egg. I intend to create the hand scene where the camera is zoomed in on the egg as it is opend and turned around.

week 3 - leaf and materials

This lesson we needed to add materials to an object to make it look more realistic, for this purpose, we decided to use a leaf. First we download an image of a leaf.
Then in photo shop we created a blacked out background version to use as a mask, to do this we used the magic want tool and a black background with an outer glow. This created a new image of a leaf
Then after creating a plane for the leaf, I entered into the materials window and added the original leaf texture onto a ball. Then adding the black out image onto the "Opacity map" it hid the white background of the original image from sight so i was just left with the leaf. Then in order to increase the detail of the leaf, I then added the original image again to the "Bump map" and increasing its value to 130. This corses the material texture to take the detail of the leaf image.

Finally after adding this to the plane, all that was needed was for the is for the plane to be shaped into a more realistic shape, after rendering the final produce looked like this.

Which James Bond film amd I am going to use?

This question turned out to be a lot harder then I though, although I have not seen any James Bond films in a while I always considered one to be my favorite of the films back when I was about 15. That film was "You only Live Twice"
This film was my favorite largely because the cool fold away helicopter "Little Nelly" not to mention the ninjas, ParanĂ¡ tank, that awesome cat and the one liners such as "You only get to live twice Mister Bond". I use to love every minute of bit but after revisiting it and reviewing it for this assignment I actually found it rather boring and dull, the action scenes where cool and everything but the story has dated a little bit not to mention the amount of bond girls he gets though in this movie, i mean there are 3 of them, thats three sub/main character to introduce within 30 seconds not including the three objects, bond, the bond walk on and of coarse the big bad guy himself "Blofeld". So in the end I decided to move on form my old favorite and so I went to the next Bond film in my collection and immediately choose to use it instead. The films name is "Octopussy"

The main reason i choose to crate the trailer on this film is because after the previous one i found this to be so much more fun. The gadgets where cool the action scenes where existing and better performed and the storyline was much more unique and complex then in "You only live twice". In that one the story line is just about creating a war between Russia and USA ware as this one combines a plot of Germaine invasion with treasure smuggling and even a circus is though into the mix, all in all it was a more enjoyable film so i have chosen to crate the trailer about "Octopussy" rather then "You only live twice"

Assignment Analasis

The assignment calls for me to create a 30 second 3D animated trailer for any James Bond film of my choice. This task has been split up into two sections, the first section is  about creating a mood board, research board and the story board for the trailer. The most interesting thing about this stage is that it also calls for three artifacts or objects to be modeled that will be used in the trailer. To me, this mean James Bonds gadgets and objects that are relative to the plot of the story rather then the actuarial characters such as James Bond, Q, M and of coarse the bad villain in that movie. It appears that I am to focus my attention on objects rather then people.

In this stage I also have to show at list three different modeling techniques in order to meet the requirements for this mart of the assignment, I think that the best way to show these techniques will be to use and explain them while i am modeling the three objects that are also required.

The second part of the assignment is to create the trailer itself using the designs and models that where descended in the first part of the assignment. The objects and models created in the first part will need to be animated in an environment appropriate for it in order to match the scene from the film that is being recreated within the trailer. Once again I am also required to use at least three animation techniques while making the trailer, however there is know limitation of what i need to use them on. therefor, if i only use morphing on all three of the objects but not any other techniques then I can use the environment these object will be in to fill up my criteria.

For example, in one James Bond film a car changes into a submarine, here i could use a form of morphing but i could also use a technique called fly though on the fish that the car/sub is moving past in order to make the fish fly across the screen even though they will be part of the environment and not part of the objects that i need to use, it will still count towards completing the criteria for this part of the assignment.

Week 2 - 3D Tank

This tank was made by using the simple shapes available such as boxes and cylinders. Then these shapes where manipulated into position. Inorder to get the tank lined up correctly, I created to plains with a tamplate of the top and side view of a tank. When i aligned them together it gave me a referance on buth plains to work from.

The main body, turrent, rear fan casings and the tack belt have all been created with the box tool. Then these boxes where manipulated using vertex manipulation to curve and bend each point. The crack weels, gun and exhaust where created using the cylindar tool with the vertex manipulation applyed as well. However the barral of the gun was created using two tubes to give the barral a more realistic view.

After rendering the tank looks like this:
